DO NOT Use Baking Soda In These Situations!

Most of us are already familiar with the numerous uses of sodium bicarbonate, commonly known as baking soda.

It is used as beauty care product, as household agent that maintains hygiene, and many more. On the other hand, there are certain cases in which it should be avoided. Let`s check them out!

  • Baking soda is widely used as useful beauty care product. However, being an alkaline substance, it isn`t recommended to use it in the treatment of acne. It eliminates the natural acids in the skin, which in turn creates the perfect environment for acne breakout.
  • Even though soda works great for household cleaning, it shouldn’t be used for containers made of aluminum, as it is likely that you end up with stains on them.
  • Although everyone knows that baking soda can be used to extinguish oil on fire, this is not a simple procedure as it appears to be. Even if you have a large amount of baking soda available, there is no safe distance from which you can sprinkle it on the pot/pan on fire. In brief, forget about using baking soda as fire extinguisher and get an efficient one which will be always on hand.
  • Putting an open bag of baking soda in the refrigerator or pouring it into the bowl is not very effective way to neutralize unpleasant odors. Sprinkle baking soda on a tray and keep it in the fridge instead! This ensures amazing results.
  • While they are very similar, soda and baking powder doesn’t provide the same effect. Both of them provide great texture of baked goods by generating carbon dioxide, but soda reacts with acids found in the food. Baking powder, on the other hand, contains acid.
  • Baking soda is an all-natural but very effective remedy for heartburn sufferers. However, it should not be overdone. The best would be to consult your doctor.
