Anyone who has tried to stop smoking knows how hard it is. Find out why your brain does not want to give up the bad habits. It has been discovered which makes you so hard to stop smoking. When you stop the habit, you might have a problem to enjoy the things you have otherwise enjoyed.

It is a condition called anhedonia. Specifically, in the first week of abstinence, smokers said they did not have a sense of satisfaction that they otherwise had. Probably because they were suddenly left without nicotine, a chemical that boosts satisfaction, published in a study scientists at the University of Wisconsin. This means that it is not so hard to leave cigarettes because of the negative effects of abstinence, but because the feeling of satisfaction related to cigarette smoking.

Nicotine basically stimulates the pleasure centers of the brain. So if you are taking nicotine during some activities you gratifying, then it is because of the chemical effect, the feeling of satisfaction could only be even greater –  is explained in the study of  author Jessica Cook. This is precisely the moment that further complicates quitting cigarettes. Those who are in the first week of abstinence had the slightest feeling of satisfaction, first start to smoke again. But, the good news is that anhedonia of quitting is only temporary, and lasts about a week. Therefore, says Dr. Cook, nicotine can be replaced with a chewing gum, not a bad idea and can help.
