Before the scientists revealed the powerful effect that “Artemisia Annua” has on cancer cells it was used solely as a powerful antimalarial remedy. They first revealed that the herb itself reduces lung cancer up to 28%, but later while conducting the research they added iron to it, and revealed that in this combination it can completely destroy the cancer cells, and what is more important it has no impact on the healthy lung cells.
After this was revealed, many scientists conducted researches and experiments in order to prove its effect on the cancer cells, and all concluded that in combination with iron it can destroy the “bad” cells. The reason why this combination attacks only cancer cells the scientists said was the fact that iron deposits in cancer cells with special receptors. Normal cells also have these receptors, but with the combination of iron and artemisinin the cancer cells are targeted and that’s how the cell division is made.
About how this herb impacts the lung cells in conclusion of the researches conducted in the cancer laboratory at the university of California was stated : “In general, our results show that artemisinin stops ‘E2F1′ transcription factor and intervenes in destruction of lung cancer cells, meaning it presents a transcription way according to which artemisinin controls reproductive cancer cell growth”
This herb has been used in China for thousands years as a cure for malaria. The first to discover the effect of this extract on Malaria i.e how it helps, were Henry Lai and Narendra Singh, bio-engineers and scientist from the University of Washington. According to them Malaria parasite can`t survive in the presence of artemisinine, because it is rich of iron. Also the researches that they conducted proved that cancer cells undergo self-destruction.
