5 CAMPING – Essential Oils That Soothe Bug Bites, Cool Down, Stay Energized And More

There are several fundamental things you need to take with you when you go camping: a tent, a sleeping bag, a flashlight and toilet paper. But, you have forgotten about oils. Which essential oils should you take for staying safe and healthy when you go camping?

Essential oils have numerous health benefits. Some smooth the skin, some the nose, some contribute to the shine and ‘umph’ of your hair.

Pitch Your Tent

You need different essential oils for camping: some for soothing sunburns or bug bites, some for keeping your energy, some for making sure that your dog does not get anxious.

If not else, these oils will neutralize the smell that comes with camping.

These essential oils are the most recommended when it comes to camping:

  • Lavender
  • Peppermint
  • Outdoor Blend
  • Melaleuca
  • Frankincense
  • Marjoram
  • Soothing Blend

Lavender

This oil is great for soothing bug bites, scrapes, bruises and cuts, as well as for sunburns. Apply some lavender essential oil on the affected area and you will get rid of the itchiness, irritation, redness and the swelling in short time. Be careful and gentle with the sunburns.

Lavender essential oil is also good for relaxing and calming and a few drops of this essential oil will make you fall asleep right away. Also, a few drops on your hands before you pet your dog will make him happy and calm his anxiety during car rides.

Outdoor blend

This essential oil consists of lemon, coconut, citronella, eucalyptus, lemongrass and other essential oils. It is great against bugs: mix 10-12 drops of it with 3-4 oz of water and make a spray for the tent.

Peppermint

This essential oil can help you stay awake and attentive and it has cooling effects. Rub a little of this essential oil through your hands and inhale through your nose and you will stay alert. The remaining oil can be rubbed on the back of your neck. Prepare a spray by mixing 5-6 drops of this oil and 1-2 oz of water. This essential oil will cool you down when you are too hot.

Melaleuca

This essential oil sanitizes and disinfects scrapes, cuts and sores. Apply some drops of this oil first, and then some lavender essential oil to reduce pain and swelling.

Marjoram and Frankincense

It is great for reducing headaches. Just mix 6 drops of each in a veggie capsule or put a drop on your thumb, holding to your mouth for half a minute.

Note: not all oils can be ingested, so that is why you should check the bottle label first to make sure you can use it as a dietary means. The oils itself should be the only ingredient of the essential oil.

Soothing blend

This is a soothing blend that can reduce pains, aches and sleeplessness. You should use peppermint, camphor, wintergreen, blue chamomile, blue tansy, osmanthus and helichrysum for this blend and it will soothe your body and your mind.

Safety tips

Avoid eye contact with every essential oil and always wash your hands after using any essential oil. Keep them in a glass bottle. The abovementioned oils are not photosensitive, thus you can be exposed to sunlight, but still, do not leave the essential oils out in the sun and keep them in a cool and dry place instead.
